B.K. Leach Memorial Conservation Area
Restoring a Crucial Flyway
More than 40 percent of North America’s migratory waterfowl and shorebirds depend on the Mississippi Flyway, a route that links Canada’s Mackenzie River to the Gulf of Mexico.
American Land Conservancy added 2,901 acres to the B.K. Leach Memorial Conservation Area, located 30 miles north of St. Louis and within a stone’s throw of the Mississippi River.
Working with Ducks Unlimited and other partners, ALC converted flood-prone farmland into prime habitat for migrating birds. With several fishable sloughs and ponds, the land is managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation as foraging and wintering habitat for many birds, including mallards, pintails, green-winged teals and American black ducks. The area also is open to hunting.

With your help, American Land Conservancy can continue to conserve the very best of our ecological, scenic, recreational, cultural and agricultural resources.
