High Meadows

A Jewel of the High Sierra

Just a mile from the Heavenly Valley Ski Area overlooking Lake Tahoe is High Meadows, a jewel of the Sierra Nevada. The High Meadows property offers panoramic views of Lake Tahoe, surrounding forests and Tahoe Basin’s tallest peaks--Freel Peak and Job’s Sister. In spring, spectacular wildflowers fill the meadows. Trout-laden Cold Creek runs for more than six miles through the property.

When ALC acquired the property for the U.S. Forest Service in 2003, it was the largest public conservation purchase in the Tahoe Basin in more than 35 years. This project opens an incomparable recreation area to public use while protecting a watershed critical to the health and clarity of Lake Tahoe.
