Many of you might have a well set up WiFi network in your home. It is password-protected so that no outsider can access your WiFi and hence gain access to your personal data and computers. However, if some guest arrives at your home and asks you for your WiFi password, then you cannot deny them as it will be rude. You must also be worried about what will happen if they gain access to your personal information.

In such a case, setting up a guest Wifi network is the best way to go. This will not be your primary password and hence they will not be able to access your personal information. However, this will not affect their internet experience. Hence, it is best if you know how to set up a guest network. If you don’t know the procedure, then don’t worry as I will be discussing the steps in the section below to do so.

What are the Reasons for Setting Up a Wifi Guest Network?

There are many reasons for which you should consider setting up guest Wifi access.

The access is limited

When a guest will be on your network of guest WiFi, they will be using the internet on a secondary network. This will keep your personal information and files safe.

The password

You can set the password for your primary network complicated and hence making it difficult to crack. However, with your guest network, you can set an easy password that can be shared easily. You will also be able to change this password regularly and it will not affect your primary network at all.

Security by adding smart home devices

It is recommended by many experts that smart home devices should be connected to the network of the guest wifi. This is because, if any smart home device gets hacked, the access of the hacker will be limited to that device only. It will keep your personal files and data safe.

Procedure to Set up a Guest WiFi Network:

Now, let us check out the procedure for setting up a guest Wifi network:-

Step 1

First of all, use your username and password to log in to your router. After that, you have to find the page of the wireless configuration. The wireless configuration page is different for different routers. You have to search through the page until you find the page of the wireless connection.

Step 2

Then, you have to select the option of Guest Access. You don’t have to change any of the wireless or network settings. Now, allow the option “Guest Access” and click on “Yes” to save the changes you have made.

Step 3

You will also be able to change the guest network name. In the default name, only a “guest” is added at the end of your primary network’s name. It will be better to change its name and you should not keep the same name as your primary network.

Step 4

Now, set the guest WiFi password for its access. You have to set up a new password as you are technically creating a new network. It is not advisable to use the same password of your primary network as the guest Wifi password. Set a different but easy password for your guest network

Step 5

You can also get the option for limiting the number of guests you want on your network. Also, fewer people on our network will give a stable and good quality network for all the users. You also have to consider the fact that by creating a guest network, you are not increasing the bandwidth. All the people on the network, including you, will be sharing the internet.

Step 6

Also, you can opt for keeping this network hidden or do an SSID broadcast.

Step 7

Now. save the settings that you have made.

Step 8

After you have completed the setup for the guest WiFi network, now it’s time to let your guests know about the SSID and the password of the network. In this way, they can access it easily.

Hope that from the above discussion, you have understood how to set up a guest WiFi network. A guest network WiFi has many advantages and one of them is maintaining your security and privacy of data. So, follow the above-discussed steps carefully and set up a guest Wifi network successfully.
